The biggest difference between the Dolphin Cruiser and all the other SmoothStars is the wheelbase.

The wheelbase means the turning circle (or arc) will be much less critical, and you’ll feel more like you’re turning a longboard than a surfboard.

It also means that the board won’t respond as well to body movement, which is what’s most important in surfing.

If you’re looking for a delayed feel, the Dolphin cruiser is a great option.

Please note that when you’re riding, it’s always a good idea to keep your surf stance the same, and don’t widen it for the longer board like you would on a Dolphin Cruiser.

The Dolphin Cruiser is very fast.

It does cross over into the cruising element, where there’s a nice blend of carving, rail-to-rail, and riding with surf turn.

It’s especially good for long distances, as it’s one of the quickest boards on the market due to its longer wheelbase.

SMOOTHSTAR Surfskates can be used by beginners, intermediate or advanced riders.

If you wish to take in consideration some technical aspects for your riding, you should focus on:

Wheel Base

The Wheel base is the distance between the trucks and is really one of the key aspects of choosing the right Surfskate for your riding ability. Basically the shorter the wheelbase, the tighter the turning and more critical turns. However, you don’t want it too short, so that you’ll need to shorten the width of your legs too much, because that way you will lose balance. Our recommendation is that you think about it considering your surfing stance,  which is approximately a little bit wider than the width of your shoulders. Measure the width of your stance against the wheels base of the Surfskate.

The Deck is very important to emulate the surf feel, since it connects your feet to the board. All SmoothStar deck designs have been tested thoroughly for the appropriate rider. For example, the more critical boards such as the 32”, 33” and 36” have a steeper concave, as riders using these boards need to carve harder and sharper than those of the 30” and 29” models. Without the concave, you’ll loose a part of the surf feel.  To simulate the tail pad on your surfboard, SmoothStar boards have very low tail kicker.

Smoothstar Surfskates

Smoothstar Surfskates Story of SmoothStar Surf skates For more than 14 years SmoothStar has been known to Australian Surfers as one of the best surf training products, outside the water. However, unless you have tried a surfskate SmoothStar, it is very hard to understand why it feels so similar to surfing. Trucks from SmoothStar replicates the surf feel because the front truck has a special turning device called the SmoothStar Thruster. This Thruster makes the front of the board loose so the board can turn and drive off the back trucks – the same as you would with surfboard rails and fins… you get the feel is “rail-to-rail” surfing on land. SmoothStar surfskate  Thruster invention is protected by patents. The turns are not sharp, floppy or stiff – they are “Smooth” but as radical as you want them to be and that is why we call it “SmoothStar”. About the SmoothStar Thruster Our Thruster is specifically positioned between the front trucks and the deck of the skateboard. The Thruster has a spring within the aluminium casing that provides resistance and reaction to the riders turning movement and wave. This spring enables the board to turn way beyond the ability of a normal skateboard. The combination of the springs tension and inside steel bearings enable for smooth transitions from rail to rail. This enables the rider to compress and push off each turn to generate speed and surf flow. Once the rider is pushing off from rail-to-rail, this creates a “self-propelling” motion, removing the need to push off the ground with the foot.
