Children are now beggining to surf earlier and younger than ever before.
Our objective at Smoothstar was to create a Surfskate model designed for groms lighter in weight and shorter in surf stance.
With this Mini Grom model, kids will be able to start developing and practice surfing on land, in a more controled environment without necessarily having to go to the ocean.

What sets this model apart from all our other SmoothStar Surfskates?

The basic two main differences for this surfskate are deck size, and the Mini Thruster truck.
The Mini Thruster is a revolutionary patented front turning truck from Smoothstar that helps simulate how a surfboard turns and moves in the water.
Instead of springs this truck contains soft rubbers inside the turning mechanism, which makes it more responsive and easier to turn left and right.

By using the Surfskate SmoothStar Mini Grom, kids will improve their balance, stance, body movement, and learn the basic principles of turning on a surfboard while at the same time they’re having fun.
This skate will allow them the opportunity to practice their bottom turns, which is the first and basic step of progression towards getting the most out of their surfing.

Does my kid need skating abilities to ride this Surfskate?
NO! When riding a Smoothstar Surfskate (both kids and adults) will adopt a wider stance than they would use for a normal skateboard.
That’s the reason why they will they do need to develop their surfing technique in order to ride the board.
We all know that kids and groms pick things up a lot easier and quicker than adults because they have a lower center of gravity combined with pretty good balance.
For kids, the movement needed to ride a SmoothStar tends to come naturally, so really isn’t necessary to previously learn to skateboard.

Smoothstar Surfskates Story of SmoothStar Surf skates For more than 14 years SmoothStar has been known to Australian Surfers as one of the best surf training products, outside the water. However, unless you have tried a surfskate SmoothStar, it is very hard to understand why it feels so similar to surfing. Trucks from SmoothStar replicates the surf feel because the front truck has a special turning device called the SmoothStar Thruster. This Thruster makes the front of the board loose so the board can turn and drive off the back trucks – the same as you would with surfboard rails and fins… you get the feel is “rail-to-rail” surfing on land. SmoothStar surfskate Thruster invention is protected by patents. The turns are not sharp, floppy or stiff – they are “Smooth” but as radical as you want them to be and that is why we call it “SmoothStar”. About the SmoothStar Thruster Our Thruster is specifically positioned between the front trucks and the deck of the skateboard. The Thruster has a spring within the aluminium casing that provides resistance and reaction to the riders turning movement and wave. This spring enables the board to turn way beyond the ability of a normal skateboard. The combination of the springs tension and inside steel bearings enable for smooth transitions from rail to rail. This enables the rider to compress and push off each turn to generate speed and surf flow. Once the rider is pushing off from rail-to-rail, this creates a “self-propelling” motion, removing the need to push off the ground with the foot.
