The Barracuda’s wheelbase is the smallest of all the complete SmoothStar adult models making it a super responsive mini board, that you can take anywhere.
This surfskate is specifically designed for young surfers and has become the entry point of all the Smoothstar Thruster board series.
It is one of the most compact boards of the SmoothStar Surfskate range, making it easy to carry and transport.
If you have another SmoothStar Thruster, you can fit it easily to this deck.
The THD Barracuda 28″ is smallest model of the Smoothstar range, that utilise the full blown Thruster D setup.
It is suitable for groms that want to take the next step and progress their carving turns.
It is more responsive than the Mini Grom series but it will require the necessary weight to ride it.

This new Thruster D is the latest in precision engineering that gives surfers the ultimate surf feeling with more hold and drive through your surf turns.
It’s also lighter and comes with a 5 year warranty.
Smoothstar THD Barracuda 28″ has taken all the unnecessary weight and size off this board to make it super easy and light for groms to travel.
As the skate is one of their main forms of transport, it makes it easy for them to take it anywhere under the arm and to their friends place.
As groms start to understand how their bodies control their SmoothStar/surfboards – it gives them full range of movement.
Why is the Barracuda deck thinner than the Flying Fish deck?
The Barracuda is designed for a younger child with smaller feet. This means you don’t need the excessive width that the Flying Fish which is designed for groms to teenagers that have bigger feet. The Barracuda deck width matches perfectly with the average foot size of a smaller child.
Why does the Barracuda with a shorter wheel base, turn slightly less than the Flying Fish?
Sometimes people think that the Smoothstar Flying Fish turns more easily, but this is mainly due to the extra width of the Flying Fish which enables kids to lean a bit more into thier turns.
With the smaller size of the Barracuda, the rider is not moving their feet around and that means they can ride the board in the same stance without moving their feet.

Story of SmoothStar Surf skates
For more than 14 years SmoothStar has been known to Australian Surfers as one of the best surf training products, outside the water. However, unless you have tried a surfskate SmoothStar, it is very hard to understand why it feels so similar to surfing.
Trucks from SmoothStar replicates the surf feel because the front truck has a special turning device called the SmoothStar Thruster.
This Thruster makes the front of the board loose so the board can turn and drive off the back trucks – the same as you would with surfboard rails and fins… you get the feel is “rail-to-rail” surfing on land.
SmoothStar surfskate Thruster invention is protected by patents. The turns are not sharp, floppy or stiff – they are “Smooth” but as radical as you want them to be and that is why we call it “SmoothStar”.
About the SmoothStar Thruster
Our Thruster is specifically positioned between the front trucks and the deck of the skateboard. The Thruster has a spring within the aluminium casing that provides resistance and reaction to the riders turning movement and wave. This spring enables the board to turn way beyond the ability of a normal skateboard.
The combination of the springs tension and inside steel bearings enable for smooth transitions from rail to rail. This enables the rider to compress and push off each turn to generate speed and surf flow.
Once the rider is pushing off from rail-to-rail, this creates a “self-propelling” motion, removing the need to push off the ground with the foot.
