The Surfskate SMOOTHSTAR Flying Fish 32″ is the most popular model for surf groms aged 9 – 13 years. It is perfect for young surf groms who want to progress their level of surfing.

Surfers of this age typically start to gain more confidence in their surfing and get stronger bodies, so the Flying Fish is the perfect fit. The Flying Fish responds perfectly to their body movement and mimics their surf turns.

Grommets can push the Flying Fish to do more advanced surf turns and manouvers – the board will respond. Grommets will be able to practice their bottom turns, generating speed and also tail slides.

The 32” Flying Fish is a responsive, sharp turning and slightly cheeky model designed for younger surfers. It is perfect for practicing surf manouvers such as the bottom turn or a cutback. The wide, slightly concave deck and swallow kicker makes it easy to perform effortless tail slides.

If you wish to take in consideration some technical aspects for your riding, you should focus on:

Wheel Base

The Wheel base is the distance between the trucks and is really one of the key aspects of choosing the right Surfskate for your riding ability. Basically the shorter the wheelbase, the tighter the turning and more critical turns. However, you don’t want it too short, so that you’ll need to shorten the width of your legs too much, because that way you will lose balance. Our recommendation is that you think about it considering your surfing stance,  which is approximately a little bit wider than the width of your shoulders. Measure the width of your stance against the wheels base of the Surfskate.

Deck

The Deck is very important to emulate the surf feel, since it connects your feet to the board. All SmoothStar deck designs have been tested thoroughly for the appropriate rider. For example, the more critical boards such as the 32”, 33” and 36” have a steeper concave, as riders using these boards need to carve harder and sharper than those of the 30” and 29” models. Without the concave, you’ll loose a part of the surf feel.  To simulate the tail pad on your surfboard, SmoothStar boards have very low tail kicker.
